Remain Your Own

written by Noha Nadler

What does it mean to “Remain your Own"? Welcome friends, pull up a seat for a story you will want to read.

This story goes back to when I was a little girl. As a first generation American Egyptian, I admired my parents determination to become American citizens, learn the American culture and the idioms they never could seem to get right - though they tried. I admired my parents for adapting and enveloping the American dream while remaining proud of their Egyptian roots. A proudness they instilled in my sister, Hala and I.

As a culmination of my heritage, my parents encouragement, deep love and determination, I understood the importance of remaining connected to my family roots. The confidence to show up to the world as myself was from my mother's love through and through. Don't get me wrong, I was not always confident as a young child. I had moments of insecurities in grade school and still till this day. Imagine being the only one in your class with a name like Noha. I was the only dark hair, tan skinned girl with a “weird” name no one could pronounce. We were the only Moustapha in the phone book for decades. As I grew older, more sure of myself, I embraced my name, my culture, my uniqueness.

For you, your story began differently than mine, yet just as beautiful. You may remember certain scents of your mom or meaningful conversations with your dad or a teacher who made a difference in your life. The common ground between us is love, growth and uniqueness.

So you see, we all have a story. It's our “stories”, our family roots that shape us to become the woman we are or the woman we strive to be{come}. For me, it was only realized by my clear understanding and appreciation of my history, family roots and values- that has allowed me to realize my dream.

‘Remaining Your Own’ embodies my mission to design timeless pieces for women who pride themselves on distinction. For women who have their own story to tell. A story passed down generations filled with pride, hope and perseverance.
